Ice Climbing at the Olympics

This winter at the 2014 Olympic games in Sochi, Russia, ice climbing will be a "cultural event". There will be no competition, there will be no medals awarded. Despite the lack of competition or being an actual event, this is an huge opportunity for climbing to gain exposure to the world and is an important stepping stone for ice climbing to be included into the Olympics someday.

I am one of the four Canadians that have been invited to attend. I'm very excited and proud that I get to be part of it as the only Easterner.

The details are still very vague but they are currently working on building a ice climbing structure near or at the venue where the skiing events will be held. We will be climbing on the structure as a demo for difficulty and speed climbing. It was said we would also be teaching people how to ice climb.

More to come as details are finalized.....
